Classification:
When we started out registering animals, we initially registered only the pure bred animals (plus their back pedigrees - dams, gdams etc..) At the time, this proved to be the most economical for us. Even so, we were able to register about 70 odd current milkers as pure bred straight away thanks to good record keeping.
However, it soon became clear to us that there was a benefit in registering all animals. This in part was due to the fact that Holstein Australia were changing their membership packages to include the first classification of 2yos. So in 2007, we registered all female calves born that year and caught up their pedigrees in the registration process as well. As you can imagine, we amassed a great number of certificates! From then on, all heifer calves are registered.
Following the 2009 calving season, the majority of the milkers and all young stock from 2007 are now registered.
